Our Stories

First United Methodist Church is more than just a place of worship— It’s a community rich with stories of faith in action. From outreach programs that feed the hungry to ministries that support families, children, and the elderly, every effort reflects a commitment to love and service. Whether it’s through missions, small groups, or acts of kindness, these stories inspire and connect us, reminding us that faith is lived out every day. Join us as we celebrate the many ways God is working through our church to make a difference in the world!

Youth Summer Missions

This summer, our FUMC youth traveled to Oljato, Utah, and Dulac, Louisiana, to put their faith into action. From pouring concrete, completing repair projects and painting, to leading Vacation Bible Schools for local children, they served with open hearts and willing hands. Watch how God worked through their efforts to improve facilities, strengthen communities, and share His love across state lines.

Vacation bible school

Emily Fontenette shares her heart for serving at First United Methodist Church’s Vacation Bible School, where kids learn about God through stories, songs, crafts, missions, and more. Watch how faith and fun come together in a week full of meaning and memories!

Youth Sunrise Service

Experience the beauty of resurrection morning through the voices and hearts of our youth! At First United Methodist Church, our Easter Sunrise Service is fully led by students — preaching, leading worship, and offering the message of hope in Christ. These young leaders remind us that faith isn't just taught; it's lived.

Easter Walk

From an egg hunt and pony rides to a walking trail telling the Easter story, our Easter Walk hosted by Robin and Dan Reed brought families together to celebrate faith and fun. Feeling inspired? Each of us is called to serve God in a special way. Whether it's hosting a large event or offering a helping hand, Robin encourages you to "jump in and do it!"

Congregational Care lay ministry

At First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge, our Congregational Care Lay Ministers bring the church to those who can’t come to us—visiting the ill, the homebound, and sharing Holy Communion with hearts full of grace. This video is a reminder: you, too, can be the hands and feet of Christ. Take time this week to check in on an elderly neighbor, friend, or family member. A visit, a prayer, or simply your presence can mean the world.

Church Readiness

Exciting moments of learning and growth at First United Methodist Church! Nancy Cadwallader leads our Church Readiness Program, guiding our kindergarteners through the importance of communion and preparing them to be active members of our church family. From understanding the sacredness of communion to learning the skills for attending church in the sanctuary, these little ones are getting ready to embark on a lifelong faith journey.

MissionBR

Our youth are on a mission! On MLK weekend, they put their faith into action in Baton Rouge—serving, loving, and making a difference in the community. From hands-on projects to heartfelt connections, MissionBR is all about being the hands and feet of Jesus.
